Aussie beef rated second best on the planet at World Steak Challenge in London
An Australian beef producer has won nine medals at the World Steak Challenge in London overnight.
Jack’s Creek, run by the Warmoll family, took out silver in the overall world’s best steak category, losing out to a producer in Finland.
The family moved to Australia during the gold rush in 1852 and has been dealing with beef ever since.
These days they’re based at Gunnedah on the Liverpool Plains in New South Wales.
David and his brother Philip joined the family business in the 1970s and were in London for the awards.
David Warmoll tells Michael McLaren it was a very successful night.
“I’m feeling pretty good. We had nine entries from different customers of ours and we got nine medals.
“This year we didn’t get the top gong. We missed out but we basically ran second in three of four categories.
“Mate, we ran second but we’re feeling well. We’re still up there in the game.
“I walk around and everyone knows Jack’s Creek and everyone knows Australia.
David says his F2 wagyu beef isn’t for every day eating.
“If you’ve taken over Alan Jones’ job, you’d have the money to eat it,” he jokes with Michael.
On a serious note, David warned his operation, along with every other farmer, is under threat from the current drought.
“I just wish it’d rain occasionally.”
