Australia’s drone dilemma: Is the public really safe?

Drone usage is rising rapidly, with over 50,000 people currently registered as private drone owners in Australia.

But police are becoming increasingly concerned the new technology could be used by terrorists to harm the public.

Paris Cockinos, CEO of Sphere Drones, tells Chris Smith drones are heavily regulated in Australia to protect the community.

“Australia is so ahead of any other country that I know of. The Civil Aviation Authority is doing a great job.

“There are so many good uses for the product. Every day more and more people come to us for resolving issues. We’ve got some amazing things happening in this space.”

Paris says an imaginary wall, known as “geofencing”, prevent drones from infiltrating certain spaces.
