Former Wallaby recovering after surgery following violent home invasion in Coorparoo
Former Wallaby Toutai Kefu is recovering and said to be doing well after being stabbed in an alleged break and enter that turned violent overnight.
Kefu underwent surgery for significant injuries to his abdomen after confronting a group of intruders in his home, allegedly trying to steal his keys.
Police have charged a 15-year-old Goodna boy with four counts of attempted murder, three counts of assault causing grievous bodily harm and one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, break and enter, burglary and deprivation of liberty.
It will be alleged the 15-year-old youth was apprehended by neighbours.
A second 15-year-old boy was taken into custody after turning up to a South Brisbane hospital with injuries.
He has been refused bail and will appear in Brisbane Children’s Court.
Nine News reporter Alex Heinke told Scott Emerson Kefu was said to be doing well after surgery.
“We hear from his family that [Kefu] is recovering, and doing well,” he said.
Officers were called to a home on Buena Vista Avenue in Coorparoo around 3am this morning after a group of people reportedly broke in.
It’s believed a confrontation involving knives broke out between the intruders and Kefu’s family.
His partner also underwent surgery for injuries to her hand and arm, and his son, aged in his early 20s, also underwent surgery.
Detective Inspector Tony Fleming said there was no evidence to suggest it was a targeted attack.
