Shadow Minister continues blistering attack as government does ‘bugger all’ on drought
A senior Labor frontbencher is on the warpath, continuing calls for the government to do something about the drought.
Shadow Agriculture Minister Joel Fitzgibbon got into a heated argument with Nationals leader Michael McCormack on the floor of Parliament and then again on The Ben Fordham Show.
Labor leader Anthony Albanese has offered up a “blank cheque” to the government when it comes to drought measures but little seems to have been done.
Mr Fitzgibbon tells Alan Jones the government has been “exposed” after doing “bugger all” to help farmers.
“They are doing nothing Alan and that’s what makes me so angry.
“We’ve had the drought envoy, the drought coordinator, the drought summit, the drought taskforce but no action!
“It’s a calamity. They are desperate. They need help.”
Alan Jones agrees and says the battle against drought has become a “war”.
“I’d like to think we’d respond more to a situation if it were a genuine war than we are responding now.
“Farmers have nothing left to give. They feel condemned to death row.”
