‘Smart doorbell’ saves mum and daughter from home invasion

A mother and her young daughter have had a lucky escape after a man allegedly tried to break into their home.

Surveillance footage (see below) clearly shows the man ring the doorbell of the family’s home in Sydney’s north-west.

When nobody answers he allegedly begins trying to force his way inside.

A woman and her two-year-old daughter were inside asleep at the time and had no idea what was happening.

Luckily the family had recently installed a Ring Pro video doorbell, which the woman’s husband eventually answered via his mobile phone, scaring the criminal away.

The woman posted to social media, detailing the terrifying experience and revealing the alleged home invader is well known to police.

“I was at home with my 2.5yr daughter taking a nap when this man tried to push in through my door.

If it wasn’t for our new camera doorbell (Ring Pro) which my husband answered via mobile app at work, this deadbeat would have smashed right on in.

This is very high-quality footage and you can see this man clearly, even the make and colour of his car (unfortunately not his number plate).

Police have canvassed the area and also have this footage. They believe they recognise this guy as a local who has targeted several homes in the area.

Please be vigilant. I dread to think what would have happened if he has made his way in with us in the house!”
